Book Marketing 101

As a group of six strong-willed women, we managed to get our book project launched and on its way. Now comes the real work, getting our book out to the public.

Now until Christmas we will be busy sharing stories, reading and (hopefully) signing copies of Hope.

Thank you to everyone that came out to the Sheep River Library reading.

Our next event is Thursday Nov. 10th at Bluerock Gallery in Black Diamond. For us this is our opportunity to celebrate with our community, connect and share our excitement for this project. Karen and Chris of Bluerock Gallery will be offering their hospitality from 6:30 -8:00 pm. This is a great opportunity to start your Christmas gifting. If you are looking to purchase a copy of Hope in the Colour of Orange online, here is a link to Bluerock Gallery’s online store.

On Thursday, Nov 10th Susan Raby-Dunne will be speaking to 300 elementary students on the importance of Remembrance Day.

Saturday, Nov.12th, Susan and Marika d’Ailly will be at Chapters in Shawnessy, then Susan is off to give a reading at Paul Rumbolt’s Scarborough United Church coffee house on Sunday evening.

As we settle into life on the book trail, Marika will fly to Guelph, Ontario, for a series of readings and book signings.

If you live in Calgary and would like to purchase a copy of Hope in the Colour of Orange, you can now do so at the Glenbow Museum gift shop.

This Christmas season we encourage you to support our local independent retailers as they continue their undying support for local artists, craft producers, musicians and authors.

“Hope in the Colour of Orange” book launch a roaring success

Monday Morning Writers Group with their first project hot off the press!

On Wednesday, October 19th we hosted our first book launch at the Sheep River Library in Turner Valley, Alberta. Seventy- five people honoured us with their presence. We were able to personally hand a copy of the book  to 20 of the participants in the book.

Taking their first look at the book they helped to create.

It was a beautiful ceremony planned in detail by Marika d’Ailly. Special guests included Irene Bakker, Honorary Consul of the Netherlands, (Southern Alberta) and Colonel Omer Lavoie, Commander of 1 Canadian Mechanized  Brigade Group and  in charge of all combat troops for western Canada. Colonel Lavoie gave a touching recollection of the connection between soldiers and civilians in time of conflict.

Marika spoke directly to the participants, thanking them for opening their hearts and homes to our project.

Susan shared with the audience the concept for the project and introduced Garfield Johnston, our special guest and WW2 veteran.

After the ceremony, there was a flurry of reminiscing, sharing and celebrating.

We would like the thank everyone who came out to share this important day with us.

Welcome to our Monday Morning Writers Group!

Welcome to our Monday Morning Writers Group!

The excitement is building as we get closer to realizing our first book project, Hope in the Colour of Orange.

MMWG member, Marika d'Ailly, gets her first look at Hope in the Colour of Orange.

Many of you have asked,”What is the project about?”

This book is a compilation of rich, diverse and dramatic historical memoirs about life and liberation during WW2 as seen through the eyes of Dutch civilians who immigrated to Canada after the war.

Now it’s on to the book launch and distribution!

It was a time of being and not being, of seeing things and not mentioning anything, of listening on the sly, of interpreting and guessing, of hiding and hunger.
